Trip To Dublin

Last weekend, myself and Ricky made an impromptu trip to Dublin for the weekend. I didn't bring my camera because I didn't want to worry about it being broken or get tired of carrying it around, so I just took some little pictures on my phone for the sake of having the memories.

  • Ready to start our walk around the zoo.
  • Penguin feeding time.
  • Nando's.
  • Tiger.
  • Shopping trip bits and pieces.
  • The cutest little orangutan family.
  • Ice-cream break.
  • Alligator.
  • Drinks before heading home.

I had the best time and I can't wait to go back again. Have you had any weekend plans recently? Or do you plan on having a weekend trip sometime soon? Let me know in the comments!

Topshop Lipstick - Rio Rio

Whenever Topshop released their '5 Years Of Beauty' products in the limited edition rose gold packaging (drool), I knew I had to have something for myself. I had my eye on the shade 'Rio Rio' for a while, so I was so pleased whenever it was part of the collection so that I could have it in the pretty packaging.
Rose gold obsession aside, the actual lipstick is incredible. I would describe it best as a matte red with orange undertones. The formulation is creamy and glides on to the lips with such ease. Yet, as you can see from the swatches above, it's incredibly pigmented. It also lasts on the lips for ages, I can put this on at 7 in the morning and it will still be there at 5 in the afternoon, even without a lipliner.
I really love red/orange lipsticks as I think they really brighten up and compliment my porcelain skin instead of making me look washed out.
In fact, it's actually a pretty good dupe for MAC - Lady Danger, which I featured in my July Favourites or the Estée Lauder Kendall Jenner Pure Color Matte Sculpting Lipstick. At a mere £8, it would definitely be worth looking at if you were wanting to try the two more expensive options. I really want to get the shade 'Innocent' in the rose gold packaging before they are all sold out as well!

Urban Decay Flushed Palette - Streak

One thing that has always been on my wish list ever since it was released was the Urban Decay Flushed Palette in the shade 'Streak'. I had a voucher code that was due to expire a few weeks ago and I just thought "Why not?" and treated myself to it before I began placement.
There are three other palettes available, 'Naked', 'Native' and 'Strip'. However, 'Streak' grabbed my attention the most out of the four due to the pale, matte bronzer, peachy shimmer highlighter and a bright coral blush.
The three silky powders are pressed into the palette, which has a magnetic closure and a massive mirror, which makes it incredible for travelling or top-ups throughout the day. It also gives me a little more space in my make-up bag because I don't have to take individual products.
Aside from the powders looking absolutely stunning, they also deliver on quality as the pigmentation of all three is insanely good, as you can see from the swatches above. If I have time, I like to use the products individually with the suitable brushes and if I'm in a rush, I swirl all three products together on a fluffy blush brush or duo-fibre brush and simply dust it across my cheeks. The highlighter also makes a gorgeous inner corner highlight and all three shades can also be used as eyeshadows.
I would really recommend this palette to anyone that loves simple, fuss-free makeup. Plus, at only £22.50 for three different products, it's a bargain in my eyes.

3 Bourjois Buys

Bourjois ColourBoost Lip Crayon - Peach On The BeachBourjois ColorBand 2-In-1 Eyeshadow & Liner - Brun DadaisteBourjois 12 Hour Aqua Blush - Inge-Nude

On a recent browse through Superdrug, mainly to kill some time while waiting for the train, I found myself drawn to the Bourjois stand because they were holding a 3 for 2 offer and I just couldn't resist. I decided to pick up the lip crayon and the eye crayon because I've been meaning to get them for ages, but I just picked up the blush on a whim because it was new in.

This is probably the most popular shade from the collection and rightly so. The gorgeous peachy pink lip crayon looks gorgeous on the lips as it adds an instant, fresh hit of colour but without being too overpowering on in your face. The finish isn't matte nor glossy, it's more of a lacquer like finish which is perfect for Summer. I can even see me wearing this whenever the colder weather starts to creep in again, I just love it that much.

I can't get enough of these 2-In-1 pencils as they are perfect for both eyeshadow and eyeliner. They glide on to the eye with ease and no tugging or irritating the eye is necessary due to the creamy formulation. As an eyeshadow, they are perfect as a one sweep wonder, I just glide a little bit on to my eyelid and blend it out with a fluffy brush. I also have the shade 'Beige Minimal', but I have my eye on 'Rose Fauviste' next as it's just a pretty pink/rose gold shade.

Unfortunately whenever I got this, my pump didn't work, it just didn't bring out any product at all no matter how many times I tried to unblock it. However I was able to unscrew the lid and dab some product out of the tube. Packaging flaw aside, the actual product is lovely. The gel like consistency makes the peachy nude blush appear fresh and dewy on the skin which means it's perfect for this time of year. They certainly are a big hit this year, it was just my bad luck that I got a dodgy one.

Revlon Ultra HD Lipsticks

If there is one thing that Revlon do well, it's lip products. I was absolutely obsessed whenever the ColorBurst Matte Balms were released, so whenever the Ultra HD Lipsticks were released a few months ago, I knew I had to give them a go as well.
There are currently 14 shades in the range, all of which are mainly brighter shades with the exception of 'Rose' being the closest to anything neutral on offer. However, the majority of the shades that I have seen are absolutely stunning.

One feature I like about these lipsticks are how they're all named after flowers to match the shade, I think that's so cute! I picked up the shades 'Rose', 'Petunia' and 'Poppy', all of which I'm completely smitten with. 'Rose' is a pretty soft pink shade, 'Petunia' is a stunning hot pink shade and 'Poppy' is the perfect post-box red shade.

Shade range aside, the actual formulation of the lipsticks are so on point. They're not matte or glossy as they have a buttery, balm like finish which is perfect for day and night.
They apply like an absolute dream, the application is smooth, lightweight and comfortable, much like a lip balm, yet they don't skimp on pigmentation as every shade is buildable and long lasting. They're also extremely moisturising as well, so there's no need to worry about them drying out your lips.

I also love how they smell and taste as well, kind of like sweets, if you don't mind lip products being scented or flavoured. Plus, at £7.99 each, they're not going to cost the earth.

I can't really fault these lipsticks that much other than they do transfer really easily, but that's nothing a little bit of lip liner before application wouldn't sort out. I really hope they release some more neutral shades some time soon as well, I think they would be gorgeous. Saying that, I also have my eye on the shades 'Peony' and 'Hydrangea'.

July Favourites

Where on earth has the past few months gone!? I can't believe it's the middle of August and I'm already seeing the Autumn/Winter stuff starting to creep into the shops. Not that I'm complaining because Autumn and Winter are my favourite seasons. Bring on the hats, jumpers, hot chocolate and cosy nights in! Anyway, here's another (slightly later than usual) monthly favourites post.

Vichy Normaderm BB Clear Unifying Corrective Cream - Light

I bought this BB cream a while back during an Escentual Haul, expecting it to be an average product. How wrong I was, I absolutely love this product. It has a light to medium coverage, yet it claims to improve skin over time, which I actually have been able to see. I rarely use foundation anymore as I use this on a daily basis. The only downfall is that there is only two shades, Light and Medium. I use the shade Light and it's a little too dark for me, other than that it is a brilliant product.

Milani Illuminating Face Powder - Beauty's Touch

As I live in Northern Ireland, Milani is not an easy brand to get hold of. However, Beauty Crowd stocks an impressive range of Milani products which I could not be happier about. First on my list was this powder, however I prefer to use it on my cheeks the same way I would use a blush as it gives a lovely subtle colour due to the different tones in the product. It's perfect for lazy make-up days as well.

MAC Lipstick - Lady Danger

This is probably one of the most popular MAC lipstick shades known to the beauty world and rightly so. This gorgeous red/orange matte lipstick instantly brings some colour to my much needed pale face. Plus, it helps that it's super long lasting, yet not drying on the lips.

Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate

Another popular product in the beauty world is this Kiehl's oil, loved by the majority of people that have purchased it since the hype. What I love most about this oil is that it's not heavy in the slightest, it sinks in quickly and is suitable for even my extremely sensitive skin. It improves the overall look of my skin, I always notice my skin a little fresher in the morning if I've used this the night before.

Toni & Guy Casual Sea Salt Texturising Spray

One thing I just love trying out is sea salt sprays. I've tried so many over the past few years I've lost count. All I know is that this one is definitely up there with the top 5. It gives the perfect beachy waves look that I love, yet it doesn't make my hair feel or look crispy or dry the way some sea salt sprays do.

Interview Make-Up

As some of you may or may not know, during 2015/2016 I have to undertake a placement year for part of my course at university, which means I had attended a lot of interviews around the beginning of the year. I actually found out I got my placement in June, but I started this week and I couldn't be happier with how it's going so far.
Anyway, whenever I was preparing for my interviews, I tried to be as organised as possible to reduce any anxiety and stress as much as possible, so this included having my make-up organised and ready to use the night before.
I knew in my head what way I wanted my make-up to be, a base that would cover any blemishes and dullness without being heavy, a soft subtle eye and a neutral lip.

Face

For my base, I knew I would need to start with a good primer, so I reached for the Max Factor Facefinity All Day Primer to help smooth and even out my skin to prepare for the rest of my base.
Next I reached for the Vichy Dermablend Corrective Stick Foundation (Opal), but used it as a concealer for any blemishes and redness that was lingering around as this is seriously high coverage, yet not heavy. For under my eyes I used the trusty Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer (Ivory) to help brighten up my eye area and make me look more awake.
For foundation, I used a small amount of the L'Oreal Infallible Matte Foundation (Porcelain) as I didn't need a lot of coverage after using the Vichy concealer, but I still wanted to even out my skin tone a little bit.
To add a little colour to my ghostly complexion, I used my favourite blush, theBalm FratBoy Blush and The Body Shop Honey Bronze Bronzing Powder (01). To add a subtle glow to my skin, I used theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer Luminizer as a highlighter on the tops of my cheekbones to give a more radiant look.
To lock everything in place and make sure shine stays away, I used the Bourjois Healthy Balance Powder (Vanille) as it's not cakey or heavy looking on the skin.

Eyes

Eye make-up has always been my favourite part of doing my make-up, so it's no exception even for a more mature look.
For eyeshadow, I used the shades 'Stark' and 'Frisk' from the Urban Decay Naked Basics 2 Palette. I used 'Stark' all over the lid and then used 'Frisk' in the outer corners and blended it inwards. I also used theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer Luminizer again in the inner corners of my eyes and on my brow bone to make myself look more awake than I actually felt.
Another trick I used to look more awake was to use the Rimmel ScandalEyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner in Nude on my upper and lower lash lines as it covers any redness around the eyes, but without having to use a black or brown eyeliner.
Some may find it strange to use liquid liner for a more soft, subtle eye make-up look, but winged liner is my staple look and comfort blanket in the make-up world and I feel more confident with it on as it really opens up my eyes, so I used the Bourjois Liner Pinceau (Ultra Black) as it glides on to my eyes with such ease.
I finished off my eye make-up by curling my eyelashes and adding a coat of the Benefit They're Real! Mascara as is really defines and separates the lashes, whilst adding some serious length without being clumpy.
I'm so over the over-drawn eyebrow look, it just doesn't suit me at all. I simply use the Soap & Glory Archery Brow Tint & Pencil (Love Is Blonde) to fill in my brows and brush them through to keep them in place.

Lips

Recently I've been really loving lip liners and that's something I thought I would never say. I adore the formulation of the GOSH Velvet Touch Lipliner in Nougat Crisp, which is actually a good dupe for MAC - Whirl. I apply this all over my lips to help with the longevity of my lipstick of choice.
This leads me on to discuss MAC - Patisserie, which is my ultra 'my lips but better' shade as it's described as a sheer, creamy neutral pink and gives an ever so subtle hint of gloss to my lips as it's one of the Lustre formulas.

What do you think of my interview make-up? Would you wear it? Let me know in the comments!

5 Favourite Lip Balms

During the warmer months, I tend to stay away from lipstick and lipgloss and lean more towards a lip balm or lip tint, as I find they sit better on my lips and I don't run the risk of them slipping all over the place in the heat, not that Northern Ireland has much heat anyway! Here's some of my current favourites that I have on rotation.

I'd heard a lot about the EOS lip balms, but I always found them difficult to find and I always forgot to order one online. Then, when I was standing in the isle of doom in Topshop one day, I noticed that they stocked a few of the EOS lip balms, so I couldn't resist picking one up to try. As expected, it smells incredible, not too minty and not too sweet. It does a brilliant job of keeping my lips moisturised and the slight tingling makes my lips feel more plump. Although the packaging is convenient and hygienic, the outer casing does get dirty pretty quickly.

The thing that sold me on this lip balm is that it smells and tastes like coconut ice, one of my favourite sweet treats! Apart from the smell and taste, it's an incredible lip balm to use throughout the day because it keeps them moisturised all day, due to it being slightly thicker than most lip balms. It also provides a super subtle pink tint which will suit any lip tone.

A blogger favourite and one I couldn't be without, I haven't had dry lips since I bought this a couple of years ago. Although some people may think it's silly to spend the best part of £10, in my opinion it's worth every penny. It's definitely one to use at night though because of it's thick consistency, but whenever I wake up in the morning, my lips are baby soft.

I've had a few Burt's Bees lip balms over the years and even though I like them all, the coconut and pear version has to be my favourite. The formula is so soft and creamy, I'd imagine it being like what butter would feel like on your lips. It smells divine and is perfect for handbags as well.

I did an entire post (here) dedicated to the Pixi lip balms a while ago, which is a testament to just how much I love them. I wear this on days when I want a bit of colour on my lips, but don't want to wear a lipstick or lipgloss. The shade 'Ripe Raspberry' is definitely my favourite shade so far, but I can't wait to pick up some more in the future.

Have you tried any of my 5 favourite lip balms? What are your favourite lip balms? Let me know in the comments!
